Transforming transport hubs with design-led hygienic durability
At locations across the East Coast, we’ve been giving train stations a quiet transformation. Refurbs that prioritise both hygiene and design in equal measure. Our recent work at this station in Grantham is a perfect example of how carefully selected materials can elevate busy public environments.
This latest project is part of a wider programme of hygienic upgrades across the LNER group of stations, and it gave our Apprentice Quantity Surveyor, Harvey, a valuable opportunity to get yet more hands-on experience on site, checking progress and learning first-hand how our products perform in the field.
Design meets durability with Altro Whiterock Wall Designs
At the heart of this installation is Altro Whiterock Wall Designs, a product that blends the trusted performance of Altro’s hygienic wall cladding systems with the beauty of biophilic, design-led aesthetics.
We used two colours from the range:
- White Mineral - a clean and contemporary look used throughout the lobby and WC areas.
- Antique Copper - to bring warmth and texture to the vanity units.
Both finishes offer:
- High-impact resistance, ideal for areas with heavy footfall.
- Impervious, wipe-clean surfaces that support strict hygiene standards.
- A stylish, non-institutional appearance that enhances the user experience.

Complementing the look with heavy-duty vinyl flooring
To complete the space, we supplied (but did not install) Altro Reliance in Storm, a heavy-duty safety vinyl flooring designed for busy public areas. It offers:
- Slip resistance for public safety.
- Stain and chemical resistance for long-term usability.
- Ease of maintenance, ensuring it looks good for years to come.
